You, Too, Can Learn to Write Great Articles

To write a great article, you need not come up with unique content from your own head. You merely need to find already-published writings on the internet, research them, and write from your research.

Someone in this great big world has written well about every possible topic and, generally, these writers create their articles for pleasure, not for profit. While you must not plagiarize any writers’ hard work, you can learn enough information from their ideas and their content to write your own article. We all can become experts in any subject in order to compose a 450- to 550-word blog or 750-word article on it quickly, if you have the proper research in front of you.

When I come up with an article idea, I go directly to sources, such as online bulletin boards, FAQ pages, and article directories:

I gather information out of as many articles as I think I need, rewrite from my notes in my own words, and add an attention-grabbing article title. When I write “rewrite,” I mean for you to use the sources as a place to research a topic; take notes, but do not copy from any document verbatim; and then use that research as a basis for your own text. Please do not copy anyone’s article verbatim because the article may be copyrighted and plagiarism carries heavy penalties!

Assisting with any type of writing, Roger A. Shapiro’s book, “Write Right,” is about the best on the market. Type the title in Google to find a copy; you will never write without it again.

To enhance your readership, the article’s title is the most important part of your article; it makes or breaks your article. The title must capture the reader’s attention and compel the reader to read the complete article. No one wants to read an article entitled “Hot Babes” only to find that the text explains how to reduce an infant’s body temperature. But that title does tend to capture the attention and compel the reader to continue. Use your imagination and creativity here.

Of course, your ultimate goal is to publish your article. But the best reason why companies will not publish an article (behind not following posting guidelines) is that the article is rife with spelling errors. You just cannot forget this vital step of writing: proofread and spell check your work. Even if you do not have a spell checker program on your computer, there are some free web-based programs, such as:

http://www.jspell.com/jspell.html.

And if you have trouble spelling some words, try http://www.dictionary.com.

Please make sure your article flows properly and makes perfect sense. I know sometimes I write one word but mean another, which changes the point I am trying to make. Try this simple, but effective, technique: Print your article and read it backward, from the last word back to the first. This technique points out errors as well as a paid proofreader can. You may also ask a few friends or colleagues to read it for you and provide their feedback.

Once you are pleased with the article, AFTER you have perfected it in every possible manner, submit it to online article publishers, following each publisher’s different posting guidelines. The more you publish your original content, the more the search engines begin to recognize you as a writer with some expertise in your field. And that is free advertisement worth its weight in gold!
